How Do My Aetna Benefits Work?

dentist talking with patientYou plan with Aetna is unique, even when you choose to work with an in-network provider. Choosing a dentist in the network allows you to receive the maximum benefit allowed at a lower cost for your family. Our knowledgeable team is always available to help you understand your plan, and we can explain how to best utilize your benefits. Here are some of the basic facts you should know about your dental benefits.

Preventive appointments, which are your six month cleanings and checkups are typically covered at 100%, which means there is no out-of-pocket cost for you. This is a great incentive to be consistent about visiting your dentist every six months, which will protect your oral health.

Restorative treatments such as a dental filling or crown, or major work like root canal therapy is typically covered at a percentage, the range is typically from 50% to 80%. Some plans do require you to wait before major work like a crown can be done. This is called a waiting period and our knowledgeable team members will make you aware if your plan has a waiting period prior to completing any major treatment.

Most Aetna plans don’t cover cosmetic treatments such as teeth whitening, and some plans don’t offer any benefits for dental implants. An orthodontic benefit may be included in your plan which typically includes a lifetime maximum amount that can be paid for orthodontic treatment this will also be calculated at a percentage.

There is also a yearly maximum that is allowed for dental treatment, and it may include a deductible to be paid before restorative work can be completed.

Be Sure to Maximize Your Benefits
